Dear Reader, Hello.
My Saturday started with reading in the garden and then pizza for lunch followed by a basketball game. I’m trying to relax on weekends. I have a tendency to think I’m not doing enough, so I never give myself a break. How/when do you go easy on yourself?
Today, I’m thinking about the following tweets:
I like thinking about everything as a process. I like to think about ongoingness. I like to think about practices and intentions. I’m guessing you’ve noticed.
I’ve noticed a lot of people talking about how impossible abolition feels, asking—How do we get from here to there? What are the steps? Where do we even start? Trying to map things out. Wanting it to just start happening. So it can be over with. But it’s never going to be over with. We’re going to have to keep working at it until we die.
So, we can take a little break every now and then. Breaks help make the practice sustainable. We need to think about how to practice abolition in a sustainable way, without burnout. We can’t let ourselves off too easily, either. But, we probably will sometimes. It’s inevitable. We aren’t perfect. The important thing is to keep trying.
Would you like a break today? I’m taking one. Invent your own prompt if you want one. Or, go back and look at a prompt from a past post that you didn’t read. Or, look for inspiration elsewhere. Sometimes you are going to have to make yourself do the work without me. Sometimes you might need a break. It could go either way. The choice is up to you. I’ll be back again tomorrow with more, but for today, I’m leaving you to your own devices. How do you feel about that? Is it scary? Uncomfortable? Confusing? Something else? Let me know!
Until tomorrow,
Gwen
